The Patras International Festival was founded after the inspiration of Thanos Mikroutsikos, who was also its first artistic director and gave an international orientation. One of the most important institutions of the cultural life of the city that takes place during the summer months every year since 1986. It hosts international and Greek music artists and groups, ancient and modern theater, dance, cinema and visual arts. Until today, the festival has featured names such as: Bob Dylan, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Symphony Orchestra, Cannes Symphony Orchestra, Keith Jarrett, Astor Piazzolla, National Theater of China, George “Buddy” Guy, Stewart Cilliesena, Goran B Tigovic, Tiger McKennitt, Ojos de Brujos, Bajofondo, Gloria Gaynor, as well as Manos Hadjidakis, Iannis Xenakis Thanos Mikroutsikos, Stavros Xarchakos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Nana Mouskouri, Agni Baltsa, Marinella, Dimitrs Mitropanos, Giorgos Ntalaras,  Alkistis Protopsalti, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Giannis Kotsiras, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Marios Frangoulis and many others.
